Getting the Perfect Ring Box

wood-ring-boxesWhen I wanted to propose to my girlfriend, I just didn’t want to do it in the same ol’ boring way that most guys do it: at a cheesy (re: fancy) restaurant, baseball game or putting an engagement ring at the bottom of a box of Cracker Jacks (that’s how Peter Parker did it).  I wanted to do something special.

On Christmas Eve, I found a beautiful wooden ring box and placed it on our Christmas tree as an ornament.  My girlfriend, ever so the alert person, noticed the box on the tree and quickly opened it up.  To her surprise, she found the ring and enjoyed my rather unique way to propose.  Score a point for creativity.

We see a lot of wooden items from flea markets.  If you are looking for a unique something to give, look for wooden gifts. Small pieces like fruit baskets and jewelry boxes are still easy to find.  They are not hand carved but are machine made.  The finish is flawless and details are superb. Wooden picture frames are great gifts as well.  Choose the kind of wood that you like in the color that will blend with the wall.

Wooden gifts are very much appreciated because they have become scarcer over the years.  All this noise about preserving wood is making a negative effect on the wood carving industry.  Have you noticed the shift from the hardwoods to softer kinds?  It stands to logic because hardwoods take years to mature while the softer woods can be harvested in a few years.  Let the carvers use sustainable wood and save wood art.

Wood Art: A Long Tradional Home Decor

woodartpicture-normaswoodartCreating simple or elaborate designs in wood can be traced back to early ages.  Wood art, as this art form is often called, takes many forms.  Even from years back, there have been evidences of intricately carved figurines and kitchen implements.  Bigger pieces like chairs and other furniture are also considered forms of wood art. Articles used in everyday chores like rolling pins, walking sticks and ladles were initially made from wood.  In the modern day, wooden versions have been relegated to hanging on the walls as decorations.  This is for practical reasons.

The wide variety of wood art products is largely due to the different kinds of wood used to carve art projects.  Many wood carvers use basswood because it’s soft, tight grain which is easy to carve.  There are so many other kinds of wood used in wood carving.  They vary in color, texture and hardness. Elaborate designs used to be hand carved with the help of carving tools, but modern day power tools have taken over.

Wall PlaquesWood Plaques can be many things, and a commemorative of a loved pet is always great.  I made a Wood Plaque of my favorite dog, Mugs.  He was a British Bulldog, and every time I look at it, it brings back cherished memories of my beloved pet.  Mugs was a beautiful white with just a hint or two of black-and the Holy wood truly captured his look perfectly.

The vast variety of types of wood that are available give way to a never ending pool of Wall Plaque materials.  Even if you now quite a bit about Wood varieties, the simple fact that each tree grows just that little bit differently, makes a vast amount of wood variations of color and grain.  Looking for a great Wall Plaque?  Think Wood!! There is a endless supply of varieties and styles to wet every appetite!
